Quinta de Mourão is a beautiful organic farm of approx. 6000 m2 with a small vineyard, over 60 olive trees and various fruit trees. The granite house has been tastefully reconstructed by the previous owner in 2005-7. A small plunge pool and various outbuildings now add to the appeal and value of this very special property. Due to its unique location, Quinta de Mourão has stunning views to the south over the Serra de Açor, to the west of the Caramulo mountains, and to the east of the Serra da Estrela.
Quinta de Mourão lies in the “Green Heart of Portugal” about half-way between Coimbra (the old capital, and university city) and the city of Viseu. The farm is situated on the edge of a popular village (Póvoa de Midões), with easy access. It lies 1.5 hours south of Porto, 2.5 hours northeast of Lisbon, and just over an hour from both the coast and Portugal’s highest mountain. The village lies between Tábua and Oliveira do Hospital which offer a good range of shops/cafés including vegetarian cafés/restaurants and organic shops.
The small vineyard at the bottom of the property has been planted with Shiraz and Merlot vines and produces 300 bottles of organic wine in a good year. The olive trees produce on average 80 litres of organic olive oil per year. The land also has a vegetable patch with composting zones, a good range of fruit trees and some ornamental borders.
The house has 75 m2 living space in total, divided into a generous living room (approx. 20 m2), kitchen/dining room (approx. 20 m2), 3 bedrooms and a small bathroom. A wrap-around porch/veranda across the south side and part of the west side of the house extends the living space in the summer. Next to the gorgeous purpose-built granite plunge pool (with ‘waterfall’ feature) there is a further small veranda integrated with a 6m diameter yurt-pad.
In addition to the living space there is a useful outbuilding (approx. 15 m2), a pump house and 2 further storage areas.
The property has its own water from a very good well. Two further wells are available but rarely used. The house is heated in winter by two wood-burners, one in the kitchen and one in the living room.
The land is terraced with lovely stone walls and is relatively easy to access and maintain. The current owners also had stone steps built between some of the terraces. This is a truly unique property of high quality, a real gem with lots of potential waiting for its lucky new owner.
